Snip procedure for functional epiphora

There have been multiple approaches described for functional epiphora but none of them is a perfect cure to this condition. Our oculoplastic department has now started doing a relatively simple procedure that is single or two snip procedure for such a condition and initial results have been promising.

These initial finding were presented at the national conference of AIOS 2008 held at Bangalore and was well appreciated.

Evaluation of macular thickness in children in Indian population

With the advent of OCT a non invasive procedure to get the cross section of retina in vivo there has been a lot of interest in reevaluating the disease with this new diagnostic tool. Though there has been lot of work on the macular thickness in adults, there have been only few papers on macular thickness in children. Infact, our retina department is one of the first one to do so in children in the country.

Effect of cataract surgery on stereo acuity in patients with mature Cataract.

Role of low vision aids in treatment of amblyopia

Amblyopia is the most common cause of uniocular blindness in children. The traditional and the most widely accepted treatment is occlusion of better eye to make the amblyopic eye work and therefore improve. However, compliance is the most common cause of failure of treatment in children.

Our Pediatric Ophthalmology department has come up with a unique technique of supplementing this occlusion treatment with low vision aids to help these kids during patching which work two fold: Improves compliance and forms a better image on retina (active vision therapy). The initial results suggest that this therapy is helpful in children with poor compliance and therefore would be a revolutionary treatment measure in future for children with amblyopia.
